Beginning fall 2014, we adopted Hubbard Mastery School as a school partner. We have donated Reading Wonders, My Math, FLEX, Corrective Reading as well many supplemental programs. In return, Hubbard has opened their doors to our staff by providing data for research and efficacy studies as well as a venue for promotional opportunities for our company. Many of you have volunteered as reading buddies, filling 25 reading slots a week, and have adopted a classroom. In addition, the grant team even wrote a grant for improving the school grounds. We have partnered in every way including cleaning the library and planting plants.
This strong partnership continued on April 17th, when sixty Students, chosen for improved behavior and academic achievement arrived bright eyed and excited in front of The McGraw-Hill Education building. They were greeted by employees that hosted games, popcorn, snow cones, and a cook out. The kids did not want to leave.
While the kids were enjoying the fun festivities, our executive team hosted and teeter tottered with leader from Columbus City Schools to raise money for a playground at Hubbard. We raised $1,285 and the company matched for a grand total of $2,570, THANK YOU Steve Engle and Bill Hess.
Hubbard Principal, Susie McGeean shared with Chris Willig the impact the reading buddies has had on the lives of the kids. Chris, Sean Ryan, Lisa Carmona, and Quentin Myers, made Columbus feel right at home. Columbus leaders quoted, you can tell the quality of the organization by the people who work here. Susie made a special call over the weekend to talk about how Chris and Sean showed they personally cared and it wasn’t just about a photo opp. Chris took them on a personal tour of the building. She said you really have great people working at McGraw-Hill, you can tell they truly care about kids.
I am so very proud to work here and could not think of a better place to be. It is about making a difference in the life of students and being supported by the leadership team to grow personally and professionally.
